Developing a global specialty chemicals business that can satisfy society's needs today, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, is not an easy option. But it is achievable.
Success must be achieved responsibly, with due concern for the environment, the earth's precious resources and the people who work for us. If not, our success will be short-lived.
By maintaining high standards of health and safety performance, seeking out innovative solutions to difficult problems and focusing on continuous improvement, our global specialty chemicals business can grow in a sustainable way.
Our products make a major contribution to a sustainable future by innovative applications of green chemistry and we have been recognised many times for our approach to safety, health and environmental issues.
Innospec is proud of these achievements. We will remain committed to the principles of sustainable development as our business expands to meet the changing demands of our customers worldwide.
Safety, health and the environment (SHE)
We work hard to deliver a high level of performance across all
aspects of safety, health & the environment. We invest in
initiatives that raise standards and recognise good performance at
site level.
As a result, our company has an excellent safety record. The standard industry measure of its safety performance is the Lost Time Accident Frequency Rate (LTAFR). In 2006, Innospec's LTAFR rate fell by 33% and is now significantly below the industry average.
Our excellent track record in employee safety has been recognised many times. We have received numerous industry awards. In addition, a number of our sites hold ISO 14001 environmental certification, the pinnacle of environmental performance.

Community Involvement
Involving the people that live in close proximity to our sites is
important to us. We forge links with local schools and colleges and
invite students to visit our facilities. We want to encourage
people into our industry and help the next generation.
Our people also get involved in local fund raising events and community sports activities. To us this is all part of building a sustainable world.

Product Stewardship
Part of building a sustainable business is the responsible
management of products that impact on the environment. We
unreservedly accept our Product Stewardship role in the management
of our Octane Additives business and the declining market for tetra
ethyl lead (TEL).
We provide comprehensive safety training, technical and engineering support to customers migrating to unleaded fuel. Our understanding can help governments resolve numerous political, economic and environmental issues and ensure the move to unleaded fuel is managed as smoothly as possible.
We were one of the first signatories to Responsible Care, the
worldwide programme promoting continuous improvements in standards
of health, safety and environmental performance. We also set up
Innospec Environmental - a company that can provide a complete
decommissioning and remediation package that embraces both tetra
ethyl lead (TEL) and other hazardous materials.
