Our Household, Industrial & Institutional (HI&I) team in the Americas understands the local needs of this competitive market. Our knowledge of detergents and the role of chelating agents is second to none. Whatever the requirement, we are there to provide the support and service you require.
Commonly used chelating agents such as the phosphonates and aminocarboxylates, such as EDTA or DTPA, are not readily biodegradable. However our highly successful product EnviometTM delivers both a powerful chelant as well as biogradeability.
It is used extensively in washing detergents helping to remove stains, provide peroxide stabilization in pre-treatment, protect dyes and fabrics and inhibit scale formation without impacting on the environment. Our product is Eco-Label Approved and REACH registered.
Chelants work by binding or solvating metal ions present in the wash cycle. Stains such as tea, spinach and grass contain metal ions and chelants aid stain removal by dissolving the metal ion in water leading to color loss of the stain and helping to lift the stain from the fabric.
Metal ions from tap water in the wash, if unchecked, can lead to a number of detrimental effects. In bleach systems, the presence of transition metal ions can lead to the decomposition of the oxidative species and so reduce the stain removal performance of the bleach system. Decomposition of the oxidative species can also lead to the formation of radicals.
These radicals can go on to cause fabric and dye damage by attacking the fabric fibre or by interaction with dyes to cause fading or color changes. Certain dyes are susceptible to transition metals present in the wash and can become dulled or dingy if these metals are unchecked. Chelants bind to transition metals and inhibit the dulling of metal sensitive dyes.
